[N2683] Martin F. Palicki Jr.
April 15, 1924 - June 1, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Martin F. Palicki Jr., 86, died on June 1, 2010, in the Sanctuary at St. Joseph's Care Center, South Bend, IN. He was born in South Bend, IN, on April 15, 1924. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Martin Sr. and Frances Palicki, and his brother, F. Donald Palicki. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Susan (Danny) Montoney of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Donald Palicki, John (Erica) Palicki, Gloria (Jesus) Palicki-Gomez and Frank (Rebecca) Palicki, all of San Diego, California; cousins, Virginia (Jerome) Grzeskowiak and Dick (Angela) Campoli; and a special friend, Julie Wright of San Antonio, Texas. Martin was a graduate of St. Matthew Cathedral grade school, Central Catholic High School and Michiana College of Commerce, all in South Bend. Martin worked with his father at the Krantz Grocery Store on South Michigan Street in the 1940s and 1950s, and later at the Brite Way Store, Key Bank and finally, for over 10 years, as a social worker at the Hope Rescue Mission from which he retired in 1995. He loved his nieces and nephews and stayed in contact with them through the years, visiting them in California and Texas. He followed all the sports teams at St. Joseph's High School, and was deeply involved in organizing many reunions of his Class of 1943 and the all school reunions of the old Central Catholic High School. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago White Sox fan. Martin kept in contact with many schools' associates over the years, good friends he met during his life and some of the people he met at Hope Rescue Mission. He was a devout Catholic his entire life. The family and friends are especially grateful to the community of the Calvary Assembly of God Church of Jacksonville, North Carolina, who held Martin in their prayers to God during his last difficult illness. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where visitation will be one hour before the service. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to the new St. Joseph's High School Building Fund, 1441 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46617.
