SOUTH BEND - Sandra A. Farkas, 75, residing in South Bend, passed away at 4:22 am Tuesday, January 19, 2016, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. She was born May 28, 1940, in Goshen, IN, to the late Paul and Olive (Knight) Miller, and remained a lifelong area resident. On May 4, 1963, in the First United Methodist Church in South Bend, Sandra married David D. Farkas, who survives. In addition to her loving husband of 52 years, she is survived by her daughter, Shawn (Don) Loutzenhiser of Mishawaka; son, Brent (Lori) Farkas of Niles, MI; grandchildren, Brandon and Callista; and sisters, JoAnn (Robert) Schmidt of South Bend and Linda (William) Ditsler of Tucson, AZ. Sandra retired from the University of Notre Dame as Administrative Assistant to the Director of Development. Sandra loved gardening, cats, grand-dogs, crafting, the lake, friends, taking photos and bird watching. She was the mailbox angel for her grandkids and grand-dogs. She was a two-time survivor of breast cancer, as well as lung cancer. And despite battling chronic pain from RSDS (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome), Sandra faced each day with a smile. She continued to put others first and was an inspiration to all. Sandra was truly an angel on earth! She was cared for by her loving husband for all except the last seven weeks of her life. He was her “Big Dope”. Funeral services for Sandra will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 23, 2016, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Friday in the funeral home as well as one hour prior to services on Saturday.
