MISHAWAKA-Barbara J. Vaerewyck, 83, of Mishawaka, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at 8:05 P.M. at her residence. Barbara was born March 21, 1928 in Merriam, IN to the late Harry and Velma (Gridley) Dundon. Also preceding her in death are one daughter, Peggy Bolin and two sisters, Phyllis Korn and Dorothy Ganser and her step-father, Ernest Frankfather. On May 5, 1951 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, Barbara married Richard Vaerewyck. They have enjoyed 61 happy years of marriage. He survives along with two sons; Gary (Cheryl) Vaerewyck of South Bend and Brian (Julie) Vaerewyck of Paw Paw, MI; five grandchildren; Jennifer (Troy) Harnish, Lindsay, Tegan, Kole and Lisa Vaerewyck; four grandchildren: Madison, Casandra and Logan Harnish and Lily Vaerewyck and two sisters, Ellen Wells of Sanibel Island, FL and Patricia Kizer of South Bend. Barbara worked at Uniroyal prior to her marriage, after which she took on the full time job of being a mother and homemaker. A 1946 graduate of Mishawaka High School, Barbara was an accomplished artist, working in several mediums but mainly in pastels. She and Richard traveled extensively and they also enjoyed spending time together by going to auctions and antiquing. They both volunteered as docents at Copshaholm in South Bend. Barbara also loved playing cards with the Uniroyal Card Club. While she found joy in many things, family was always most important to her. Visitation for Barbara will be Tuesday from 5-7 at the Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th St. Mishawaka. Private family services will be held with the Rev. Jacob Runyon of St. Matthew's Cathedral officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Center for Hospice 111 Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, IN or St. Matthew's Cathedral 1701 Miami St. South Bend, IN 46613. Richard and the rest of his family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all of the wonderful people at the Center for Hospice for all of their caring and compassion shown to them.
