[N2538] Mary C. Stopczynski

Oct. 31, 1928 - April 11, 2010
VANDALIA - Mary Catherine Stopczynski of Michigan, 81, formerly of Granger, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2010, with loving family at her side. Mary Catherine (also known as "Cakie") was born October 31, 1928, to the late Gerald P. and Bernadine (Riffel) Kintz. On February 7, 1948, she married Alex Stopczynski, who preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage on April 10, 2008. Those left to cherish her memory are five daughters, Carolyn (Phil) Malstaff of Granger, Linda (Booge) Einfalt of South Bend, Patty (Rodney) Snyder of South Bend, Joan (Jack) Thomas of Hastings, Michigan, and Pam (Kim Daugherty) Stopczynski of South Bend; four sons, Jim Stopczynski of Elkhart, Dr. Bob (Gisela) Stopczynski of Granger, Bill Stopczynski of Elkhart and John Stopczynski of Mishawaka. Also surviving are two brothers, Jack (Leona) Kintz of South Bend and Jerry Kintz of South Bend; sister, Joyce (Dick) Mead of South Bend; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary Catherine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The center of Mary Catherine's life was being a homemaker and raising her nine children, passing down to them those family traditions of cooking and gardening, and their devotion to their faith by attending Mass for many, many years at St. Pius X in Granger, and then St. Ann Catholic Church in Cassopolis, Michigan, where they retired. Mary Catherine enjoyed watching figure skating and playing Bingo, hoping to hit the jackpot. Family vacations consisted of camping and fishing with her late husband, Alex, and solitary moments of swinging on her glider, watching the birds, overlooking the lake. She had a passion for nurturing abandoned animals, including her pets, Luke and Lucy, and her beloved cats, Lucky and Baby. Friends may call today from 4-7 PM in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, enter off Cherry Road, where there will be a parish vigil service at 6:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. To send condolences, please visit www.mcgannhay.com.
