MISHAWAKA - Margaret L. Koczan, 92, of Atria Tanglewood Trace, Mishawaka, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Margaret was born April 16, 1918, in Peru, IN, to the late Arthur and Grace (Booker) Carpenter. On November 22, 1938, in Mishawaka, she married Charles G. Koczan Jr., who preceded her in death on January 12, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Mason, in 1988, infant son Eugene in 1951, and two sisters, Hazel Keim and Florence Schrader. Margaret retired in 1979 from Koczan's Paint Corner which she operated alongside her husband for many years. From 1979 until 2004 she made her home in Pasco County, Florida, where she was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Hudson. In 2004 she returned to South Bend. Survivors include her son, Charles (Audrey) Koczan III of Granger, IN; grandchildren, Susan Mason, Linda Hazen, Diane (Randy) Rutkowski, Alison (Jason) Szabo and Charles (Christina) Koczan IV; and four great-grandsons, Phillip, Jacob and Daniel Hazen, and William Koczan. Services will be at 11 AM Thursday, Oct. 7th, in the multi-purpose room at Atria Tanglewood Trace, 530 Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka, where friends may visit one hour prior to services. Cremation will take place with interment at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
