SOUTH BEND - Margaret Deranek, 96, passed away at 9:00 am Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in West Bend Nursing Home. Margaret was born on September 8, 1917, in South Bend, to John and Margaret (Tars) Vecs Sr. She was employed by Bendix and the University of Notre Dame. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albin Deranek, daughter, Judith A. Deranek, two brothers, John Vecs Jr. and Stephen Vecs, and a niece, Melvine. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Deranek of South Bend; a son, Ronald Deranek of Huntersville, NC; four nieces, Sharon, Roberta, Nancy and Margie; and a nephew, Steven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of services in the church where a Rosary will be recited at 11:00 am. Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
