LAPORTE - Helen (Opperman) Lewandowski, formerly of South Bend, passed away Thursday, July 5, in LaPorte. Helen was born in LaPorte to Martin A. Hough and Hazel Mae (Smith) Hough and lived most of her life in LaPorte. Mrs. Lewandowski had worked at American Rubber and retired from Austenel-Howmet Corp. In 1937, in LaPorte, she married Oliver M. Opperman, who died in 1977. She then married Edmund Lewandowski in 1979, who died in 1991. Preceding her in death are four brothers, Robert, Charles, Richard, and John; and two sisters, Martha Strieter and Louise Kozlenko. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Joanne (Opperman) Geisler of LaPorte, and Suzanne (Opperman) Cardillo of Seminole, FL; three grandchildren, Lori and Jennifer of Florida, and Scott of LaPorte; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Drew and Bryanna, all of Florida. She was a member of Eagle Auxiliary of LaPorte and TCU of South Bend. There will be no services and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S.
