NEW CARLISLE - James L. Kern, 87, formerly of New Carlisle passed away July 30th, 2013 in Glendale, Arizona. He leaves his wife, Alice DeRight Kern; one stepson, Edward Siderits; grandson, Ricky; and great grandson, Tyler, all of Florida; one brother, Dwain & wife Audrey Kern of New Carlisle, and many nieces and nephews. He was a WW2 veteran, serving overseas as a radio operator. He worked at Bendix Allied Signal in South Bend, also known as Honeywell. He retired in 1985. His first wife, Vera preceded him in death in 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Ruth Kern of New Carlisle; sisters, Rita Ann of South Bend and Marilyn Hoggard of South Bend; and a brother, Eugene, killed in World War 2. James was in the South Pacific in World War 2 on Peleliu, Okinawa & Japan. Arrangements were provided by Best Funeral Services in Peoria, Arizona. He was buried in National Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, August 23, 2013.
