Richard E. Mochel was born on February 2, 1928, in Woodland, Indiana to Clem and Amelia (Schalliol) Mochel. He passed away on August 29th surrounded by his family. Richard is survived by his wife, Harriet (Dean) Mochel. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 15. He is also survived by 4 daughters, Darlene (Ken) Garrett, and Jill (Rob) Wilson both of Bremen, Indiana; Gail Highley of Dublin, Ohio; and Sherry (Bob) Albaugh of Mishawaka, Indiana; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Virgil (Marian) Mochel of Wadsworth, Ohio. He is preceeded in death by his sister, Mary Jane (Lester) Berger; and three brothers, Robert, Evans, and Ned.Richard E. Richard was a lifetime resident of Woodland, Indiana, and was proud to be a farmer. He also worked for Weaver Electric Company of Mishawaka and retired in 1993. He faithfully served his church and community. He was Trustee of Madison Township for over 48 years and was the longest serving Trustee in the State of Indiana. Richard was instrumental in the purchase of land in 1970 to construct a newer fire station for the Township's Volunteer Fire Department. In 2009 he was most proud of the Township's accomplishment to save and invest money to buy a new fire truck without the need to borrow money. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ all his life, a member of the Lions Club, drove a school bus for many years, and played with the Pete Freehauf Band for over 40 years. Richard enjoyed his family, farming, and playing his trumpet. His family will greatly miss him.The family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbors for their visits and support as well as the kind and caring help from Abby at Hospice. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on September 1st at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Wednesday September 2nd at St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. Jo An Schaetzle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
