Richard 'Dick' Van Nevel, 84, of Mishawaka passed away on Saturday August 25 at 1:10 pm in his residence after an illness, Dick was born on February 5, 1928 in Mishawaka as the son of Richard and Marie (Van De Putte) Van Nevel. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two sons John Van Nevel and David Van Nevel along with one sister Margaret Mock. On August 29, 1952 in Mishawaka, Dick married the former Theresa Ganser she survives with their children Richard W. (Anita) Van Nevel of Manhattan, KS; Larry (Peggy) Van Nevel of Mishawaka; Michael (Janet) Van Nevel of Alexandria, KY; Mary (Chris) Morales of Makawao, Maui, HI; Joseph (June) Van Nevel of South Bend; James (Kris) Van Nevel of Chesterton, IN; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dick was the office manager for White Hall Laboratories in Elkhart for 35 years before his retirement in 1989. Dick was a Graduate of Indiana University , a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church in Mishawaka, BK Club where he active in Belgium Bolleing , a member of the Poor Handmaidens Assoc. Mishawaka Garden Club. Dick's greatest love was he family and his faith, he would always enjoy fishing with them or golfing with them or any of his many friends. He took great pride in his gardening and was often found in the yard tending to it. Friends and family may call on Tuesday August 28, form 2:00 " 4:00 and 6:00 -8:00 pm in Hahn Funeral Home 505 w. 8th Street Mishawaka where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday August 29 at 11:00 am in St. Monica's Catholic Church Mishawaka with Monsignor Bruce Piechocki officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.The family requests Memorial Contributions be made in his name to either the Christ Child Society of the Center for Hospice.
