MISHAWAKA - Evelyn G. Cato, 82, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in her residence after an illness. Evelyn was born on September 21, 1931, in Mishawaka, to Michael and Genevieve (Malmalski) Charnowski. On June 20, 1953, in Reno, NV, Evelyn married Jack Cato, who survives along with two sisters, Jane Gervais and Lorraine (Bob) Gill, both of Mishawaka. A nephew, Gary Gervais, survives, who also helped Jack take care of Evelyn, which made it possible for her to stay at her esidence for a year and a half instead of being placed in a nursing home.
Family extends a special thanks to Gary for all of his love, help and support to Evelyn. There are also nine nieces and nephews surviving. Evelyn was preceded in death by a son, Vincent Francis Cato. Evelyn was a secretary for the Uniroyal Corporation. She loved spending time with her family and she was a devoted aunt. Family and friends may call on Monday, April 28, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 West Mishawaka Avenue, Mishawaka, IN. Monsignor Bruce Piechocki will officiate with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Published in South Bend Tribune on Apr. 27, 2014
