SOUTH BEND - Neil I. Stanton, 81, residing in South Bend, passed away at 6:02 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born October 21, 1927, in Osceola, IN, the son of Hugh N. & Beryl (Morris) Stanton, and has remained a lifelong resident of our community. On October 8, 1950 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Janice J. Mikesell. Together, they have enjoyed almost fifty-nine years of marriage. He is survived by his loving wife Janice; a daughter, Keineth (Doug) Snyder of South Bend; and two sons, Noel (Kathryn) Stanton of Madison, WI, and Chad Stanton of South Bend. Also surviving Neil is a sister, Janet Stanton Byer of North Royalton, OH; a brother, Jack (Hattie) Stanton of Muncie, IN; and a brother-in-law, Donald Wachs of Stevensville, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Norma Hawkins and Beverly Wachs. Mr. Stanton was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy with the Seabees. He began his career as a salesman with Nye-Fulton Lincoln-Mercury dealership in 1953, later spent many years at O'Hara Lincoln Mercury and retired in 1995 from Jordan Lincoln-Mercury in Elkhart. He was a member of B.P.O.E. Elks #235, Mishawaka Lodge #130 F. & AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and Mizpah Shrine. He enjoyed driving the van and taking children to the Shrine Hospital for Children in Chicago and Cincinnati, and did so until just recently. He was a longtime member and former Deacon at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church. Services celebrating the life of Neil Stanton will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 12, in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Don Neely will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private interment will be on Friday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mr. Stanton may be offered to the Shrine Hospital for Children, 2211 North oak Park Ave, Chicago, IL, 60707-3392.
