George W. Masterman Jr., 83, of Grand Boulevard in Mishawaka, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. George was born December 16, 1922, to George and Effie (Lowe) Masterman Sr. in Walkerton, Indiana. On July 5, 1951, George married the former Ms. Loretta Josephine Boswell, who preceded him in death, passing away in 1977. Surviving are his daughters, Becky Masterman of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Pam Rowe of Wetumpka, Alabama; along with his brothers, Robert Masterman of Niles, Michigan, and Hugh Masterman of Elkhart, Indiana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his son, George Masterman III; a brother, Francis Lou Grix; and a sister, Margaret Masterman. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2006, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2006, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1941-1947 before his honorable discharge. He was employed as a setup man at the Bendix Corporation for over 30 years before his retirement in 1978. George was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears, and was a member of VFW Post #9820 and UAW Local #9.
