SOUTH BEND - Howard L. Leets, 90, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Howard was born August 6, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Howard and Louise (Soleta) Leets. On February 12, 1949, Howard married Jane (Burklow) Leets, who preceded him in death in 1976, along with a sister, Evelyn Malicki, and brothers, Richard and Donald Leets. On August 21, 1980, Howard married Delores (Gour) Leets; she survives along with his daughters, Linda (Ken) Klopfenstein, Lillian (James) Cinkowski; son, Lewis (Cindy) Leets; stepdaughter, Sharon (Egon) Ratkay; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Snider. Howard honorably served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the VFW #1167. He was a graduate of South Bend High School, worked at Studebaker for 9 years, then worked on loading docks for various trucking companies till retirement. Howard was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and an active member of the Community Cornerstone Fellowship Church, helping wherever he could. He had a knack for telling funny stories and jokes, spreading joy and happiness wherever he went. He enjoyed woodworking, and took pride in his garden and flowers. Howard loved to help and encourage people, bringing a smile to everyone he met. He was a wonderful father and husband and will be truly missed. Visitation for Howard is 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 15, 2015, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 16, 2015, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
