GOSHEN - Pauline Anna Laidig, 98, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010, in the Courtyard Healthcare Center, Goshen. She was born on July 2, 1911, in Oakville, IA, to Henry and Emma Gerst Binkele. She married Silas R. Laidig on February 19, 1939, in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1978.She was also preceded in death by a son, Eldon Keith; one grandchild, Keith Rager; five sisters, Vera Klaus, Frieda Hoerr, Esther Hoerr, Emma Eshelman and Dorothy Haefli; and four brothers, Otto, Henry, Rudy and Elmer Binkele.She was cherished by her six children and their spouses, Juanita Laidig of Goshen, James (Barbara) Laidig of Bremen, Karen (Darrel) Sommers of Goshen, Sharon (Walter) Rager of Toledo, OH, Roger (Susan) Laidig of Mishawaka and Linda (Robert) Smith of Fort Wayne. Also surviving her are 11 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two sisters and two brothers from Peoria, IL, Matilda Faughn, Bette Binkele, Richard (Gladys) Binkele and Robert (Bernetta) Binkele; a sister-in-law, Aldean Feldman of Bremen; and many nieces and nephews.During her life Pauline was a busy and devoted farmer's wife and a very loving and caring mother to her family. She was a faithful member of the Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend. Pauline was a generous, kind-hearted, and godly woman, and her passing will leave a void in the hearts of many. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in the Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend, with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, in the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, and one hour before the services in Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend.
The family wishes to convey their hearfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers who provided Pauline with loving and expert service during the latter years of her life at Greencroft Evergreen West, Emily's House at Waterford Crossing, Goshen General Hospital Hospice, and the Courtyard Healthcare Center. The family also is deeply grateful for the prayerful support of the congregation of the Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend, 15961 Madison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46544; to the Apostolic Christian Church Home for the Handicapped, 2125 Veterans Road, Morton, IL 61550; or to the organization of your choice.
