John O'Konski, 77, a resident of Danbury, Wis., died on Tuesday, June 13, in the Miller-Dwan Medical Center, Duluth, MN. John Richard O'Konski was born on Brick Street in South Bend, IN, on March 1, 1929, to parents Edward Victor and Lottie Mae (Banicki) O'Konski. John's first union of marriage was to Edith Marie Benjamin in Michigan, which ended in divorce. John's second union of marriage was to Ardyce Boatman in Hudson, WI, on May 6, 1967. John will be remembered as a "Jack of all Trades." While living in Michigan he worked for Darling Rendering Company as a filling station manager and also throughout the rest of his life as a carpenter. While living in Wisconsin he worked for Foster Excavating, was a mechanic for S&L Auto in Grantsburg, WI, drove truck for Hopkins Sand and Gravel, was an instrumental part of the Danbury Ambulance and Fire and Rescue Department, was constable of Danbury for a time, and worked for the Town of Swiss through the Experience Works Program (formerly the Green Thumb Program) for many years. John is survived by his wife, Ardyce; children, James (Linda) O'Konski of Edwardsburg, MI, Randolf "Randy" (Sharon) O'Konski of Decatur, MI, Terri (Jim) Fosdick of Cassopolis, MI, and Rick (Donna) O'Konski of Dowagiac, MI; stepchildren, Mikkel Nelson of Madison, WI, Lucille Nelson of Antelope, CA, Terry (Linda) Nelson of Danbury, WI, Anthony "Tony" Nelson of Grantsburg, WI; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Hart, Mary Helmenen, Lottie Swan, Paul O'Konski, Ella Magill, Frida Clymer and Eugene O'Konski, all of Michigan, and Margie Morical of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Edith of Dowagiac, MI. John was preceded in death by his parents; and by four brothers, Edward, Sylvester, Steve and William O'Konski. As per John's wishes, he will be created with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Dahl Funeral Home, Spooner, Wis., is assisting the family with arrangements.
