SOUTH BEND - George Anthony Resnik Sr., 83, of South Bend, died February 21, 2011, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 27, 1927, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Resnik was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Chemical Engineering. He worked at Watcon over 60 years. On May 26, 1951, he married Mary Alice Casey, who preceded him in death in 1975. On May 18, 1978, he married Regina McManus, who passed away in 1994. He is survived by his children, Dr. Ann Resnik, Mary Resnik, George Resnik Jr., Dr. Kathleen Horn, Carolyn (James) Houswerth, James Resnik, Barbara Resnik, Patricia (Jeffery) Mattes and Thomas Resnik; as well as his stepchildren, Patrick (Kathryn) McManus, Don (Patty) McManus, Peggy McManus, Jean Geissler, Jan (James) Williams and Martin (Breann) McManus. He was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. George was a longtime member and past president of the Downtown South Bend Rotary Club. He belonged to the Serra Club and Fourth Degree Fr. J.A. Nieuwland Assembly #242 of the Knights of Columbus and 3rd Degree member of the Archbishop John Carroll Council #5570. He was inducted into the Order of the Knights of Malta. He was also a member of the American Water Works Association and the American Chemical Society and Toastmasters. He was a participant of the Barth Hamilton Annual Retreat at St. Meinrads. George was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mishawaka, and joyfully sang with their choir. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, with Rev. Terry Fisher, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. today in the McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road) where there will be a combined parish, 3rd & 4th degree Ko C Rosary at 3 p.m. In the spirit of George's lifetime of generosity, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to your favorite charity.
