SOUTH BEND - Mr. Stanislaw Szostakowski, known by his friends as “Stanley,” was born May 8, 1932, in Wroclaw, Poland, to the late Stanislaw and Janina (Lorenc) Szostakowski, Sr. Stanislaw “Stanley” Szostakowski, age 83, who resided on West Grace Street, South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016, at Briarcliff Health & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, IN. As a young man Stanley moved to the United States. He was a very caring, kind, sensitive person who had a heart of gold and he loved his country. His passions were oil painting, ceramics, singing opera music, and repairing broken things, especially cars. He was an environmentalist and a conservationist. He fluently spoke and sang six languages, such as Russian, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Italian and English. One of the highlights of his life is when he met Luciano Pavarotti after a singing engagement at a Italian restaurant. He attended the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA, where he studied liberal arts. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for various companies represented by the UAW. Coming from Yucca Valley, CA, in July of 2006, he moved to South Bend. Survivors left to cherish the loving memory of Stanislaw “Stanley” Szostakowski include his daughter, Idalia Szostakowska of Wloclawek, Poland; his son, Jurek Szostakowski of Leipzig, Germany; his angel guards, Estella Taylor of Palm Springs, CA, and Sheral Anderson of Indianapolis, IN; along with a host of many other friends and other relatives. Private local services were entrusted to Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier St., South Bend, IN, and final destination and burial will take place in Poland.
