I got you attachment. Thanks for sending it.

THE TARWART / TARWACKI CLAN

Jim, follow this link to my family tree.

http://home.si.rr.com/tarwacki/ancestor/

I would be willing to bet that your John Tarwacki (1860) and my Adam Tarwacki (1858) were siblings or cousins, at the very least.

It is interesting to note that my great uncle Aleksandr, had a son named John living in Brooklyn. That side of the family changed their name to Taylor, which may help explain the disappearance of one of the branches of the family tree. Actually, John Tarwacki (Taylor) was a major league baseball player in the 1950's.

I am also curious about the relative you list as Tadensz Tarwacki. I wonder if that is a clerical error, since Tadeusz (Thaddeus) is a very popular Polish name. In fact, Adam's father was Szymon Tadeusz Tarwacki. He was born Szymon Tadeusz Tarwart in 1827. The "ski" ending was added to the family name sometime after 1827.

All of this has led to speculation on the family name. As you are probably aware, there is no Polish root for the word "Tarwat." No place name, occupation or patronymic to draw upon. All this has led to speculation that there is some Turkish origin to the name. After reading Sinkiewicz's "With Fire and Sword" I have become convinced that this is a distinct possibility.

One last item. At least one of my father's siblings died of a disease called Amyloidosis, a disease peculiar to peoples of the Middle East/Mediterranean regions. I wonder if this has effected any other branches of the Tarwacki clan.

The study of the family tree has been an absolutely fabulous and enjoyable undertaking for me. I have recently been looking up some of the coats-of-arms for my various ancestral families. Falkowski, Sutkowski and Piwek all have identifiable armorials. Can't find one for Tarwacki - yet another mystery.

Nice to hear from you Jim & keep in touch.

Regards,
Bob Tarwacki
