Granger - John E. "Jack" Vandervoort, 93, of Granger passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at StoryPoint. John was born May 11, 1928, in Buchanan, MI to the late Victor and Louise (Buckner) Vandervort. On March 31, 1951 in Watervliet, MI, he married Janet (Lyon) Vandervoort, who preceded him in death on June 15, 2019. John is survived by his daughters, Suzanne (Pat) Ruszkowski, Nancy Brugh, and Terri (John) Sweeney, all of South Bend, IN; ten grandchildren, Tonya (Eric) Hardisty, Nicole (Andrew) Place, Matthew (Brittany) Ruszkowski, Tony (Amy) Ganser, Ryan (Jenny) Ganser, Sean (Somer) Ganser, Christine (Neal) Regan, Andrew (Trish) Ruszkowski, Alison Sweeney, and Louis (Sarah) Ruszkowski; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Casserly. In addition to his wife and parents, John is preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Vandervort and Richard Vandervort. John graduated from Michigan State University with his bachelor's degree in forestry and a minor in engineering. He remained an avid fan of Michigan State even after graduating. John was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and volunteered at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for over 15 years. He was a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Queen of Peace Catholic Church. John prioritized family and treasured time spent at family gatherings. He and Janet spent their retirement years travelling and spending the winters in Florida. John enjoyed golfing, playing softball, gardening, especially roses and dahlias, playing bridge, and in his former years, coaching baseball at Eastside Little League. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 1 PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd, Granger, IN 46530. Friends may visit with the family at the church for one hour prior to mass. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN where John will be laid to rest next to his loving wife, Janet.
