Frances L. Van Tornhout, 83, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2018 at Sprenger Healthcare, Mishawaka. She was born on August 7, 1934 in Highland Park, IL, to the late Andrew and Concetta (Galuzzi) Barone. On August 7, 1954, as Frances L. Barone, she married Robert R. Van Tornhout, who preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Paul) Kwiatkowski of South Bend; two sons, Robert Van Tornhout of South Bend and Douglas (Catharine) Van Tornhout of Fairfield, CT; four grandchildren, Megan, Adam, Annie and Nicholas; two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Hadley; and by her sister, Marcella Pynaert of South Bend. Mrs. Van Tornhout worked as a secretary for the University of Notre Dame for over 20 years, before retiring in 1998. She was a Parishioner of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka and enjoyed crafting, knitting and crocheting. She also loved to go to the casino and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday March 27, 2018 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A funeral services for Frances will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday March 28, 2018 in the funeral home Chapel.
