MISHAWAKA - Joe Romeo, 83, departed this life on May 8, 2016, after a long illness. Joe was born in Plati, Italy, to Domenico and Maria Loretta Romeo on June 9, 1933. He married Joanna Sperling (Romeo) on October 13, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna Romeo, son, Dominic Romeo, mother and father, Domenico, Maria, and sister, Julia Violi. Joe is survived by his daughter, Lori Gaby (late Mike Gaby), Keller, TX, Frederick Romeo, (Hong Kong, China), Toni Ann Thornton, (late Mike Thornton), Indianapolis, IN, Julie Strohl (Dave Strohl), Keller, TX, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Sam Violi, and several nieces and nephews. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and is a lifetime member of the VFW, and an A member of the Diloreto Club. Joe was an avid fisherman and mushroom hunter, and always made sure others shared in his catch. Memorial Services to be determined. Published in South Bend Tribune on May 11, 2016
