[N8139] Josephine "Babe" Palmer, 87, residing in South Bend, passed away at 3:15 am, Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, South Bend, following a lengthy illness. Josephine was born in South Bend on June 14, 1923 to James and Carmella (Brucsezi) Nate, who preceded her in death. On May 4, 1957, Josephine married Norman Eugene Palmer in Saint Joseph Parish of South Bend, who preceded her in death on May 1, 2001. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Rose LaPara of South Bend; and two brothers, Joseph "Pep" Nate of South Bend and John Nate of Dowagiac, MI. Josephine is survived by one son, David (Sandra) Palmer of Osceola; two granddaughters, Corrine Palmer of Indianapolis and Katy Palmer of Osceola; one sister, Mary Mazzone of South Bend; and one brother, Rocco (Theresa) Nate of South Bend; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, with whom she was always very close. Josephine retired from Associates Finance in 1959 to raise her family. In her spare time, she volunteered at her church and at St. Joseph Hospital delivering flowers to the patients.

The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to the wonderful and caring staff at Sanctuary at St. Paul's 3rd floor healthcare, laundry, house cleaning, and food service, as well as the people of "The Center for Hospice Care." Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer will be 10:00 am, Friday, January 21, 2011 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with Rev. Christopher Derda, C.S.C. officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 20 in the funeral home. expressions of sympathy on behalf of Josephine may be offered to Alzheimer's & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E.
