James “Jim” Saboski
Sept. 10, 1948 - Feb. 11, 2016
SOUTH BEND - James D. Saboski, 67, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016, at home with his wife by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born September 10, 1948, in South Bend, to the late Albert Sr. and Anna (Minnes) Saboski. On September 11, 1976, in Plymouth, IN, Jim married his loving wife, Nanette “Nan” (Hassler) Saboski; she survives along with his brothers, Jerry (Cindy) Saboski of South Bend, IN, and Albert (Robin) Saboski Jr. of Columbia City, IN; nieces and nephews, Angela, Christine, Ian, Chris, Andy, John & Stephen; several great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Nancy (Don) Ferris of Plymouth, IN. Jim graduated from Washington High School before honorably serving his country in the United States Marines, where he was a Lance Corporal, and served in the Vietnam War. He worked for B & P Motors, Koontz Wagoner, then retired from Fed Ex after 25 years, then worked for Vans Floral during semi-retirement. Jim played on the A & W Root Beer Little League Team at Bellville Park where he became a “Legend” for his home run record. He was a member of the St. Joseph Young Mens' Club, where he especially enjoyed his Tuesday beers with his buddies. Jim was a member of Bowlers Country Club, where he enjoyed bowling and golfing. His favorite things to do were going on Casino trips, golfing, fishing, gardening, and hunting for mushrooms, and rabbits. He was a big Notre Dame football fan and a devoted White Sox fan, even going to Chicago when they won the World Series. Most of all, the highlight for Jim was when he flew to a remote island in Canada with his wife Nan for a week of “catching the big ones.” Nan would like to thank all the staff at Cancer Care Partners for the wonderful care given to Jim over the past year. Also, thanks to all our family, friends, neighbors and Center for Hospice for their help and support. A heartfelt thank you to Terry and Sandy for making his last casino trip a day to remember. Visitation for Jim is 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 15, 2016, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
