Henry L. Futa
July 4, 1939 - Dec. 18, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Henry L. Futa was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Mary (Kapalczynski) Futa, and brothers, Joseph, Al (Ollie), Bernard and Edward, and his sister, Theresa Szalewski. His surviving sister-in-law is Evelyn Futa, and his surviving brother-in-law is Ed Szalewski. It would be clich©b to write about how his life has been, was and is now an end, but I know Henry would rather us mention the special people, moments and experiences which he has shared with those he loved and how those many memories have blessed him. Henry "Hank" was born on July 4, 1939, in South Bend, IN, and raised to be a lifelong resident. In his early twenties, he met his wife of 50 years, Kathleen (Kate) R. Futa. Hank and Kate Futa learned to live in-the-moment, which was many times vacationing, golfing, but most important of all...family time. In their early years of marriage, Hank and Katie had their dear and loving daughter, Mary L. Futa. Without a doubt, Mary was the apple of Hank's eye. Spending many wonderful moments playing horseshoes at Rolling Timbers, Hank, Kate and Mary grew their relationship to include anyone who wanted to be a part of it. Needless to say, they were surrounded by many friends and family. In fact, most would say that there was no division between the two. While Hank was not spending time with his family, he worked as a master plumber for Hank's Plumbing - a business he owned and ran himself. Being a skilled plumber and handyman, his talents carried over into wood-work and crafts. Soon thereafter, Hank and Kate opened "Country Crafts and Stuff." Henry passed on December 18, 2010, in his home with his family surrounding his bedside. As the list would be too many, Henry, Kate and Mary would like to mention a few who have been dear to Hank in his living years: Bob Sarley, his plumbing buddy, and Donna, his wife; Joe and Rosie Egyed, for all of the afternoon euchre games at the bait shop; Rick Futa, his nephew, who always stopped by to help with chores and have many conversations by the pool and porch; Gregorio and Rebecca Quiroz, for being our strength and "right arm;" the Quiroz sons, who know the meaning of true family and love; Patty Warr and Mr. Harold Parker, for their unselfishness and for their time and support; Patty's children, Bryan Hettinghouse Jr., and Julie Hettinghouse-Hyman, for the countless memories at Myrtle Beach, the family summer visits to South Bend/South Carolina, and their children, who were adored as grandchildren to Hank and Kate. The family would like to give a special thanks to medical doctors, Shaya Mokfi and Bilal Ansari for their excellent patient care, and quite frankly their sense of caring. Also, a great thanks to Hospice and Alick's Home Medical for their compassion, organization and sincerity. Per Hank's request, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of St. Joseph County and/or to Penn Township Food Pantry in Mishawaka.
