South Bend - Barbara S. Horka, 80 years old, passed away at 1:45 AM on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at the residence of Tom Horka and Sister-in-law, Joanna Horka. Barb was born November 3, 1940 in South Bend to the late Frank and Mildred Horka. As a youth, Barb attended John Adams, worked at Studebaker's and Sears, traveled the country, winter vacationed in Florida and spent time at the homes of cousins- Rankins (South Bend), Glidens (Michigan), Tobins (East Lansing) and Horkas (Cleveland). She attended IU Bloomington with her roommate, Joanna Horka, who later became her sister-in-law. In 1965, Barb received a BA from IU Bloomington. She was hit head on by a speeding car, suffered severe brain damage, loss of short term memory and lived out her days making friends from Sunnymede, the Farmer's Market, River Park, and Sunnyside Church. Memorial services will be held at Sunnyside Church at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 21, 2021, and later at the Carlisle, In. home of Joanna's brother, Arthur Harris.
