SOUTH BEND - Edythe G. Rakowski, 86, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday August 2, 2016. She was born on December 22, 1929, to the late Phillip and Anna (McCarthy) Smith and was a lifelong area resident. On August 2, 1948, as Edythe Smith, she married David Rakowski, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her son, Greg Rakowski, a grandson, Tyler Rakowski; three sisters, Eileen Carlson, Betty Wilcut and Pat Rans, and by a sister-in-law, Joanie Niedbalski. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Jerry) Lodyga of Osceola, IN; a son, Anthony Rakowski of South Bend; three grandchildren, Nikki (Erik) Lodyga-Lothian, Collin Rakowski and Marc (Emily) Lodyga; and by a special cousin (sister), Helen Kiskowski of Mishawaka, IN. Edythe worked for the South Bend Tribune for 8 years and the Spaghetti Bowl for 9 years prior to that. She was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church since 1948, loved to play Bingo, watch game shows and loved her dog and cat. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday August 4, 2016 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday August 5, 2016 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W.
