Cathy E. Basham, 70, of NYC, passed away on March 22, 2017. She was born in Gary, IN, to Edward R. and Catherine M. Svetanoff. She is survived by her husband Ming Tang, of NYC. She is also survived by her sister, Ceres Ann Kostell (late David) of Chesterton, and brothers: Edward (Diane) Svetanoff, Jr., of Landsdale, PA, Michael J. (Maryann) Svetanoff, of Valparaiso, A.J. (Vicki) Svetanoff of Northport, FL, and Peter (Clare) Svetanoff of Elkhart, IN. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Kam (Marjory) Tang, of New York, James R. Meier, of Mishawaka, IN and sister-in-law Jeannine Svetanoff of West Lafayette, IN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Besides her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her sister, Christine M. Meier; a brother, Brian J. Svetanoff, and brother-in-law, David J. Kostell. A wake and prayer service was held in NYC on Sunday, March 26, 2017, and cremation followed. Cathy will “be coming home” for burial in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.A private graveside service for the family will take place on Friday, March 31, 2017, with Father James Meade officiating. Cathy worked in an office near the Twin Towers on 9-11 and was one of those dust-covered survivors who walked miles to get home that day. She fondly talked of all the compassionate strangers who handed out cups or bottles of water or water-soaked towels and rages to her and to many others. So, instead of flowers or memorials, the family would like to suggest-do something for a stranger.
