March 7, 1926 - Feb 9, 1996 Marcellus, Eugene R. BERGMAN, 69, of Elm Drive, died at 6:56 a.m. Friday at Lee Memorial Hospital, Dowagiac, of natural causes. Mr. BERGMAN retired in 1967 from the South Bend Police Department as captain of the vice squad. He was born March 7, 1926, in South Bend and had lived in Marcellus for eight years. On Nov. 28, 1946, in South Bend, he married Margaret TURK. She survives with four daughters, Linda FORD of Key largo, Fla., Kathleen SMITH of Ridge Crest, Calif., Donnarae SULENTIC of North Liberty and Michelle CYTACKI of Spring, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a member of FOP Lodge 36, Moose Lodge of South Bend, American Legion Post 50, Veterans of Foreign Wars 1167 and was an Army veteran of World War II. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Welcomer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend. Cremation will take place, with entombment in St. Joseph Valley Memorial park, Granger. There will be no visitation.
