MISHAWAKA - James Lawrence Kanouse Sr., 67, of River Drive, Mishawaka, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 16th. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 11, 1946 to Lawrence and Sophia (Rapela) Kanouse. They both preceded him in death. On April 11th, 2005, he married the former Jonelle Sullivan in South Bend. She survives, along with two sons: Bryan Kanouse of LaPorte, Indiana and James Kanouse Jr. of South Bend. Also surviving are four step daughters: Holly Howell of Valparaiso, Indiana, Christine Noid of Decatur, Michigan, Jodi Harrington of Elkhart and Carrie Gieger of Battle Creek, Michigan; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. One brother, Fred (Jane) Kanouse, of South Bend, survives, and also a sister-in-law, Connie Lillie of Mishawaka. Mr. Kanouse was an Engineer for Bendix Corporation in South Bend before leaving to start his own company. He actively participated with V.A. support groups. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. The family wishes memorial contributions to be given to the Hospice Foundation. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Bubb Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
