Valerie M. Szabo, 80, of South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness on Friday, Feb. 18, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Szabo was born on March 2, 1919, in South Bend, to the late Walter Trytko and Clara Turkowski. Mrs. Szabo was previously married to Benjamin J. Jeziorski, who preceded her in death. She then married Thomas Szabo on Feb. 6, 1971. Thomas preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernardo Trytko. Mrs. Szabo had been previously employed with Travelers Insurance and the former Reis Furniture Store. She is survived by three sons, David M. Jeziorski of St. Charles, Ill., Paul Jeziorski of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Fred W. Jeziorski of Tualatin, Ore.; four grandchildren, Scott, Stephen, Aaron and Christy Jeziorski; three great-grandchildren, William, Samuel and Madison; three sisters, Verna Nowak of Mishawaka, Ind., Elizabeth Wood of Brazil, Ind., and Monica Bice of Syracuse, Ind.; two brothers, Eugene Trytko of Eustis, Fla., and Clem Trytko of Granger, Ind.; and by a sister-in-law, Adele Trytko of South Bend. Mrs. Szabo was a member of St. John's Parish. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 319 South Main Street, South Bend, IN 46601; to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 23526 St. John Way, South Bend, IN 46628; or to the donor's favorite charity.
