SOUTH BEND - Matthew Andrew Zoncick, 74, of Kernersville, NC, peacefully cashed in his chips on August 4, 2012, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Matt was born February 18, 1938, in Michigan City, IN, to Matthew Andrew and Florence Julia Marchewka Zoncick. A military honor ceremony and interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Matt grew up in South Bend, IN, and served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed at Studebaker's, Adams-Westlake and the CTS Corporation in Elkhart, IN. He started Zoncick Home Construction and built homes in Granger, IN. On May 11, 1963, he married Janice Marie Klinedinst. His hobbies included construction, bowling, golf, computers, and travel with annual vacations to Las Vegas for 20 years. The family lived in Granger until retirement to Las Vegas and North Carolina. Matt was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Michelle Marie Zwiener, and husband, Mark, of Germanton, NC, Nicole Desiree Herald and husband, Rob of Lewisville, NC; grandchildren (the joy of his life), Brian William Zwiener, Alexis Nicole Herald, Katherine Marie Zwiener and Matthew Quinn Herald; sister, Nancy (Joe) Knauf; and brother, Leonard (Natalie) Zoncick of South Bend, IN. The family expresses gratitude to Hospice and Duke Cancer Clinic staffs, and extends a very special thank you for the support of family and friends. .
