WAVERLY, OH - Dorothy Skowronek, 87, of Waverly, Ohio died 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at her home. She was born December 19, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of the late Chester Kaminski and Helen (Herma) Kaminski. On October 16, 1954, Dorothy was united in marriage at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana to Stanley Anthony Skowronek, who preceded her in death on June 22, 2018. Surviving are her sons, Stanley Skowronek Jr. of Chicago, Illinois and Anthony John Skowronek and wife Cynthia of Waverly, Ohio; daughter, Regina Marie Chiang and husband Michael of Glencoe, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Amelia Chiang, Elise Chiang, Anthony Michael Skowronek, and Victoria Jean Skowronek. Dorothy was an avid antique collector, a member of South Bend Senior Forever Learning, a former member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, and a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Michael Joseph Skowronek; and best friend, Teresa “Boots” Yates. Rosary Service is 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Mary Queen of the Missions Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Queen of the Missions Catholic Church, Waverly, with Father Thomas Herge officiating. Christian Burial Service will also be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at the St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel in South Bend, Indiana with Father John Delaney officiating. Stanley and Dorothy Skowronek
60th Wedding Anniversary
Stanley and Dorothy Skowronek recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their friends and family on October 16th. Stanley and Dorothy (Kaminski) were married at St. Hedwig Catholic Church by Reverend Father Sztuczko on October 16, 1954. Stanley served in the U.S. Navy during WWII for three years of which 26 months were in the Pacific from Bougainville, Guam, Saipan, Philippines, and Iwo Jima. Stanley retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation. Dorothy served as a homemaker, raising four active children: Stanley Jr., an electrician in Chicago, Dr. Anthony (Tony), a veterinary pathologist in Waverly, Ohio, Michael (deceased), and Regina Chiang, a registered nurse in Glencoe, Illinois. The couple has four grandchildren. Stanley and Dorothy currently reside in Ohio with their son, Dr. Anthony J. Skowronek, along the Appalachian Mountains.
