April 9, 1920 - March 6, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Dorothy A. "Bufie" Ruszkowski, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in her residence. Dorothy was born April 9, 1920, in North Liberty, to the late Martin and Michalena Niespodziany. On May 3, 1940, Dorothy married Edward H. Ruszkowski in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on May 19, 1994. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her son, Robert R. Ruszkowski; son-in-law, Andrew V. Swizek; son-in-law, Richard D. Bennett; and daughter-in-law, Janet E. Ruszkowski; grandson, Justin R. Hay; brothers, Frank, Walter, Stephen and John; and sisters, Agnes, Sophie, Helen and Pauline. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Virginia A. Bennett of Granger, Evelyn K. Swizek of New Carlisle and Jean M. (Robert) Hay of South Bend; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Janice) Bennett, Jennifer (Terrence) Grytza, Kimberly (James) Pickens, Kelly (Mathew) Willoughby, Andrew Swizek, Robert Ruszkowski, Chad Hay and Thomas (Sara) Swizek; great- grandchildren, Austin, Grant, Julia, Luke, Brandon, J.R., Kendra and Makayla; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and had lived in the Crumstown area her entire life where she worked side-by-side with her husband on their farm. She was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc., and a lifetime member of the Crumstown Conservation Club. Dorothy loved playing cards, dominos, farkle, bingo, crossword puzzles, crocheting, was an avid reader, and watched General Hospital daily. Most of all she loved her family, and was endearingly nicknamed "Bufie" by her grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 9, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 10, 2012, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Tuition Assistance Scholarship Fund, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619.
