SOUTH BEND - Harold "Dean" Hough, 84, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:56 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014, in Healthwin Specialized Care, South Bend, IN. Harold "Dean" was born on February 15, 1930, to the late Harold L. and Harriett L. (Smith) Hough in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cheri Lynn Stoynoff; one step-sister, Marjorie Bare; and one stepbrother, Charles Gohn. Mr. Hough retired in 1992 from the South Bend Community School Corporation, where he worked as a Computer Analyst for 25 years. On June 30, 1962, he married Joan L. Kukla at St. Patrick Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Dean is survived by his loving wife, Joan L. Hough of South Bend, IN; one son, James L. Hough of Niles, MI; two stepsons, Robert W. (Phyllis) Stoynoff of South Bend, IN, Michael E. Stoynoff of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Jessica Cox of South Bend, IN, Adrienne Hough of Jacksonville, FL; two great-grandchildren, Julian and Mia Cox, both of South Bend, IN; and three brothers, Carl Hough of Oklahoma, Ronald (Donna) Hough of Mishawaka, IN, and Terry Hough of Granger, IN. Dean was a member of St. Patrick Parish, where he was a former Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of Z.B. Falcons Nest 80, and a 50-year member of American Legion Post #357. Dean was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a Radarman Seaman on the ship USS LST 1041. He enjoyed doing Sudoku Puzzles and listening to Lawrence Welk music. The family sends a special thanks to the Healthwin Rehabilitation Staff, especially Toni K., Dee and Kelly. Also a special thanks to the The Center for Hospice staff. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2014, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S.Taylor Street, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.
