Sept. 25, 1918 - March 10, 2011
SOUTH BEND - It is with great sadness that the family of Jeromine "Harry" Plonski shares the news of his passing. Born September 25, 1918, in South Bend, Indiana, Harry was the son of Walter and Eleanora (Makowski) Plonski, both deceased. Harry has one surviving sibling, a brother, Edwin (Judy) Plonski. Gone before him are seven siblings, Theodore Plonski, Bernice Plonski, Edward Plonski, Julia Kreczmer, Sophia Verhaegen, Bruno Plonski and Virginia VanCuren. On November 1, 1952, Harry married Jean McWain, who preceded him in death in 2006. Together they have three children, Jeffrey Plonski of Davisburg, Michigan, Jerrilyn (Dennis) Bykowski of Woodridge, Illinois, and Jeannine (Don) Curtis of Granger. Harry is also survived by seven treasured grandsons, Andrew, Adam, Alex and Aaron Bykowski, Ian (Jennifer) Curtis, Seth Curtis and Nikolas Plonski. Harry was a Navy veteran of the World War II era, serving 1942-1945. Harry was also a proud retiree of the Bendix Corporation, primarily working in 9A and other brake manufacturing departments. He retired with over 40 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #9. A devout Catholic, Harry loved all his churches, but most certainly the Cathedral of St. Matthew where he was a parishioner. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Bathrick and Dr. Jason Marker for their loving care of Harry during difficult times. Words cannot express the profound gratitude the family has for all the staff at Bremen Health Care. You all made Harry's final days ones of feeling safe, loved and well cared for. Bremen Health Care was a port in the storm when our father needed more than just a bed. Your loving actions demonstrated immense capacity far beyond nursing care. Thank you; we could not have done it without you. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, Miami Road, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, Harry requested to be remembered in prayer and tributary Masses. Contributions may also be made in his name to the Cathedral of St. Matthew. To Those I Loved and Those Who Loved Me When I am gone, release me, let me go- You have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears, be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love. You can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you all have shown, but now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on. So, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near- and if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all of my love around you loud and clear. And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and "welcome home." Author Unknown
