JoAnne M. Szabo, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 30, 2021. JoAnne was born on January 17, 1930 to Ralph S. and Mary (Ott) Cramblet. She spent most of her childhood in the Minneapolis area and lived all of her adult life in South Bend. JoAnne graduated from Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, MN in 1948 and attended IU, Bloomington. She worked as a case manager, a dental receptionist, and a sales associate throughout her life, though her greatest role was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In 1953 she married her first husband Robert Reece. On December 6, 1968 she married the love of her life, John S. Szabo who preceded her in death in December of 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mary (Ott) Cramblet; her sister, Mary Carol Wallett; son, Eugene F. Szabo; and daughter-in-law, Becky Szabo. JoAnne is survived by her children, Mary (Jack) Strom of South Bend, Roberta (Rolf) Rovang of Plano, TX, Robert Szabo of Granger, and Ralph (Joyce) Szabo of Carrollton, TX; stepsons, John (Teddi Fine) Szabo of Silver Spring, MD and Tom (Arlene) Szabo of Cornelius, NC; a brother, Thomas (Phyllis) Cramblet of Aptos, CA; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a niece; several nephews and many cousins. Mom enjoyed traveling with dad, playing golf, and she was marvelous cook! But above all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is loved dearly and will be missed beyond words. There will be no visitation at this time. A Graveside Service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 20th at Saint Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in JoAnne’s memory may be made to the Pet Refuge (4626 S Burnett Dr, South Bend, IN 46614) or the Center for Hospice (501 Comfort Pl, Mishawaka, IN 46545).
