NORTH LIBERTY - Hildegarde M. Firestone, 86, residing in North Liberty, passed away at 9:25 pm Thursday, April 24, 2014, in her home. She was born February 21, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Genevieve (Symakowski) Kotal, and had remained a lifelong area resident. On February 21, 1948, in South Bend, Hildegarde married Robert L. Firestone, who survives. In addition to her loving husband of 66 years, she is survived by daughters, Nancy Jo Deneve of South Bend, Marilyn Sue Burger of St. Charles, MO, Gloria Kay Firestone of North Liberty and Diana Lou (John) Neidlinger of Walkerton; grandchildren, Scott Anthony Deneve, Robert Burger, Joshua Lee Neidlinger and Ryan Burger; and ten great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Trippel of Mishawaka; half sister, Mary Dooms of South Bend; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Hildegarde was preceded in death by her stepmother, Frances Kotal; son-in-law, Michael Burger in 2012; grandson, David Noel in 1992; two sisters and three brothers. Hildegarde worked 35 years for South Bend Community School Corporation in the cafeteria at Riley High School. She was also a homemaker. The family will gather privately at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home - North Liberty Chapel, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
