SOUTH BEND - James "Jim" L. Frederick, Sr., 78, residing in South Bend, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2011, at home. He was born November 22, 1932, to the late Orville and Jenny (Winrott) Frederick in South Bend, and remained a lifelong area resident.
Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from AM General after 25 years. He was formerly an active member of JBA Baseball for 15 years and helped to build Clay Baseball Park. He was also a giver of life, having donated over 10 gallons of blood. On January 17, 1953, in South Bend, Jim married the former Ella J. Borsodi, who survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Peggy (John) Nelson-Ennis of Noblesville, IN; two sons, Jim L. (Debby) Frederick Jr. of Granger and Andy (Paula) Frederick of Osceola; eight grandchildren, Jeff (Dana) Nelson, Mark Nelson, Scott Nelson, Kelsey Frederick, Kristen Frederick, Katie Frederick, DarLena (Eddy) Brock and Cyndie (Jeff) Hughes; and five great-grandchildren, Cameron Nelson, Lilly Brock, BrookLynn Brock, Addyson Brock and Noah Brock. Jim was preceded in death by one sister, Amy Riggs; and two brothers, Orville E. Frederick and Robert Winrott.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at 3:00 p.m. today, August 14, 2011, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may visit with the family from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. prior to services. Contributions in memory of Jim may be donated to the St. Joseph County Humane Society, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
