WAKARUSA - Lawrence "Dutch" Verheye, 82, of 12351 Pierce Road, Wakarusa, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2007, after a long illness. He was born August 14, 1925, in Mishawaka, to Alphonse and Maria Monhaut Verheye. He attended Madison Township School. On September 20, 1948, in Nappanee, he married Jeanette Hunsberger. She survives with two daughters, Delores (Tom) Fox, Wakarusa and Lynnette (Tony) Hanes, Pendleton; five grandchildren, Shane (Shonda) Pfeiffer, Brian (Emily) Fox, Brandon (Rena) Fox, Joshua and Jake Hanes; six great-grandchildren,
Zach, Dylan, Sheridan, Joey, Hayden, and Henry; two sisters, Betty (Ed) Losicki, Mishawaka and Maryanne (Ron) Truex, Wakarusa. A daughter, Patricia Duzy, preceded him in death. Mr. Verheye was a World War II Army veteran. He served at the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Adams & Westlake Company in Elkhart after 35 years. He also was a custodian at Concord High School for six years. He loved maintaining his yard and feeding the birds. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Friends may call at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home in Wakarusa from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, December 14, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Kevin Skaggs, pastor at Oak
Grove Missionary Church, will officiate and burial will be at Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or Oak Grove Missionary Church. Published in the South Bend Tribune from 12/12/2007 - 12/13/2007.
