Robert M. Cabanaw, 80, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:48 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2006, in Memorial Hospital. Robert was born on August 10, 1925 in South Bend to Alvin W. and Margaret (Frahler) Cabanaw. He retired in 1993 from Acme Service Corporation, where he worked as a window cleaner for 35 years. In 1946 he married his former wife of 41 years, Eldonna Cabanaw, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters Jeanne (Rick) Nichols of South Bend, IN, Pamela Patterson of South Bend, IN, Brenda Kepler of South Bend, IN, and Cathy Pearson of Galien, MI; three sons, William (Kay) Cabanaw of South Bend, IN, Robert E. (Lori) Cabanaw of LaPorte, IN, and Bruce (Natalie) Cabanaw of Bloomington, IN, fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two sisters, Neoma Morrow of South Bend, IN, and Anne Gade of Bronson, MI; his companion, Rosemary Falls; and by his poodle Pepe. Preceding him in death were three sisters, Dorthey Bowman, Dolly Hite, and Matilda Springman; and two brothers, Frank and Alvin Cabanaw.
Robert was a was W.W. II Army Veteran. He received a Purple Heart, and had participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a former member of the American Legion La Rue Messenger Post #26, Niles, Michigan, and the V.F. W., where he was a member of the Honor Guard. Robert enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, NASCAR, Wrestling, and Fishing at his weekend retreat in Michigan. Services were entrusted to Kaniewski Funeral Home of South Bend, Indiana.
