Donald Wayne Yates, Sr., 87 years old, of South Bend, IN passed away at 3:36 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Mr. Yates was born on May 16, 1928 in Harrisburg, IL to the late William "Ralph" and Gladys Marie (Threet) Yates. On May 1, 1954, in South Bend, IN, he was united in marriage to the former Teresa Ann Nyikos. Mr. Yates is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Teresa A. Yates; two daughters, Carol Ann (Dr. Tom) Mabry of Colorado Springs, CO and Robin Marie (Jerry Mann) Yates of South Bend, IN; six sons, David Wayne (Laura Addison) Yates of Mishawaka, IN, Richard Allen (Susan) Yates of Powder Springs, GA, Patrick Donald (Denice) Yates of Buchanan, MI, Jeffrey Dale (Susan) Yates of Greenbrae, CA, Donald Wayne Yates, Jr. of Sevierville, TN and Michael James (Camarra) Yates of Geneva, IN. He is also survived by his fourteen grandchildren, whom he idolized; two great grandchildren with a third on the way; and his sister, Doris Jane Barrow of South Bend, IN. Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert G. Yates. Mr. Yates was the owner and operator of Genesis Electronics, retiring in 1985 after fifty years. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in South Bend, joining the church in the 1950’s. Mr. Yates had been a member of the church choir for fifty years. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 3010 S. Ironwood Road, South Bend. Rev. Diana Thompson, pastor of the church, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20th, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Contributions in memory of Donald Wayne Yates may be donated to the First Baptist Church, 3010 S. Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46614.
