Film 2290354 Records of the Burgerlijke Stand (Civil) Wevelgem, 1886 on Jan 2 at 5pm in there appeared before me Theophile Camille Holvoet , Flax Worker, age 22 born and living in Wevelgem. and it was declared that at 1:00 am a child was born to him and his wife Ludovica Moerens housewife 22 years born in Heule and now living in Wevelgemat house # 54 ..The child will be called Maurice Urbain. The father signed the record (he was literate)
From his intention to Naturalize we know that Maurice was listed as a Laborer, White, Fair Complexion, Aprox 5'8'tall, Brown Hair and Eyes. On the date of Declaration July 5, 1913 he lived at 1702 Brush St, South Bend In . He emigrated from the port of Antwerp BG. on the SS Lapland and arrived ay NYC on December 4, 1910. On October 1 1918 He renounced allegience to King Albert 1 of Belgium to become an American citizen. He then lived at 441 Brookfield in South Bend.
By the time Maurice became a citizen he and Mary had produced two new citizens Margaret 1917 and Alice1918. George was yet a twinkle of the eye to come on the stage in 1920. Speaking on behalf of Maurice as a witness to citizenship was August Bailey an Janitor by trade and Joseph Voorde the County accessor and father of John Voorde a War Hero who was to become the Mayor of South Bend in the 1960's
