SOUTH BEND - Robert “Mac” Lee McDonald, 79, resided in South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Robert was born on February 17, 1942 in his home in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Ernest Leroy and beloved Beulah F. (Hygema) McDonald. He was the youngest of five boys. Robert, lovingly known by family and friends as “Mac” was blessed to be united in marriage to the love of his life, Joyce McDonald, who has preceded him in death. Robert is survived by their two daughters, Laura Prouty of Aliso Viejo, CA and Shelley Hatch of Brier, WA, and 3 grandchildren, Shannon Prouty, Jonathan and Steven Hatch, also Robert’s older brother, William McDonald of Mishawaka. Robert proudly served our country in the United States Air Force for 6 years as an aircraft mechanic. He had a successful 20 year career with United Airlines, as a Customer Service Representative. After working with the airlines, Mac became a locksmith, which he enjoyed and continued for several years. Mac and Joyce lived and raised their girls in Torrance, California. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home River Park Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
