[N7754] Attica, Indiana - Romona L. (Lilly) Peterson, 78, a former Attica resident and presently residing in South Bend, IN, died in the Milton Home in South Bend, on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at 10:05 p.m. Romona was born in Attica, IN, on April 14, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Albert LeRoy and Thelma Ruth (Hopper) Lilly. She was a long time resident of the Attica community, graduating from Attica High School in 1950. She had been a resident of South Bend for the past three years due to her health. Romona retired in February of 1994 from Purdue University. She had worked for 27 years at Purdue and at the time of her retirement she was a buyer for the Scientific and Biological Sciences. Prior to working at Purdue, Romona worked for 6 years at Harrison Steel Castings Company in payroll. Romona was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and was active in the Ladies Circle of the Church. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and needle work. She especially enjoyed her time with the family. On July 9, 1952, Romona married Robert Eugene Peterson in Attica. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1991. Surviving are a son, Robert (wife-Denise) Peterson, Columbus, OH; two daughters, Lee Ann (husband-Robert) Cruea, Burnettsville, IN and Teresa (husband-Greg) Dobrzykowski, South Bend; four grandchildren, Brett (Elizabeth Alsop) Cruea; Phillip Peterson, Matthew Peterson and Rachel Dobrzykowski; two great-grandchildren, Tanner & Mackenzie Cruea; three sisters, Janice (husband-Richard) Waterstraat, Williamsport; Susan (husband-Robert) Sloan, Wallace and Anita Gregory, Attica; a brother, Albert Skip (wife-Judy) Lilly, Attica. She was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Truhart. Friends may call at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 407 S. Perry St., Attica, on Saturday, April 2nd from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral mass at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, east of Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis or the American Cancer Society.
