Debra Bauters
May 3, 1955 - Dec. 30, 2014
MISHAWAKA - Debbie Regina Bauters lived a beautiful and blessed life. Born on May 3, 1955 to loving parents Joe and Jennie Piatkowski, she grew up with her best friends, sisters Kathy (Underwood) and Peggy (Foldenauer) in Mishawaka, Indiana. She attended St. Joseph Grade School, Marian High School ('73) and St. Mary's College ('77), where she found her calling as a nurse and later her profession at the school infirmary. She married her soul mate, Don Bauters on June 4, 1977. Her true calling was to be a mother and she was blessed with five children in six years: Beth Ann (Matt Fielder) of North Liberty, IA, Nick (Sujata) Bauters of Osceola, IN, Donna (Pat) Dillon of Chicago, IL, Melissa (Bill) Schoelwer of Indianapolis, IN and Jared (Angie) Bauters of Santa Barbara, CA. Debbie's children are her pride; her six grandchildren (plus three on the way!) are her joy: Harris and Vince Fielder, Priya and Jai Bauters, Kiley and Emmet Dillon. She loved all things Christmas, Vegas, "Polish red," reading and writing, themed presents, telling stories, and quite possibly has kept the postal service in business through her many cards and care packages. She loved Mary and had incredible faith, unwavering until the very end of her five-year fight with cancer. She joined Mary, the angels and her own mother in heaven on December 30 after passing peacefully at home in the arms of her loyal husband and loving children. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 4 from 2 to 6 p.m. with a Rosary at 2 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Debbie's name be made to St. Joseph Parish, Mishawaka or Camp Sweeney, a diabetic children's camp in Gainesville, TX.
