OSCEOLA - Bernice Martha Kerrn, 92, of Osceola, passed away of natural causes on Monday, October 30th, in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Survivors include son, Karl Kerrn of Osceola; daughter, Jennifer (Greg) Swarwark of South Bend; grandson, Cameron of South Bend, granddaughter, Michelle, currently deployed with the US Navy in Bahrain, and great-granddaughter, Arabelle Kylynn. Bernice is also survived by two sisters, Peg Finney of Elkhart and Louise Finney of Shelburn, IN, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Edna Biesbrook, Elnor Schnitzer and Helen Contat. Bernice was born in rural St. Joseph County on January 25, 1926, to Bruno and Anna (Meier) Kobold. Bernice graduated from Madison Township High School in 1943. Bernice retired after 25 years at Koszegi Leather Products. She also worked for Bendix, Wilson Brothers, HD Lee Company and Nicky D's Restaurant. Bernice grew up during the Great Depression and worked many hours on the farm with her sisters. In addition to working in the factory, she also did custom sewing - wedding dresses, custom tailoring, and mending. Baby quilts, bedspreads and crocheted table clothes were gifts for everyone in the family. She also was very proud of her huge vegetable and flower garden. She continued to stock the roadside stand until she reluctantly gave it up a few years ago. She was so proud of her grandchildren - she appreciated education and wanted to make sure it was available to them after she was gone. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, November 2nd, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. A service celebrating Bernice's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 3rd, in the funeral chapel. She will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Memorial contributions may be made in Bernice's name to JDRF-Northern Indiana Chapter, Team Cam, 10401 N. Meridian St., Suite 150, Indianapolis, IN 46290.
