Alta I. Brugh, 93, formerly of Irvington Avenue, South Bend, passed away peacefully at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001. Mrs. Brugh was born in Mishawaka on July 19, 1908, to Grace (Brewer) and Harvey H. Shroyer. The oldest of six children she is survived by a sister, Norma Starkweather of Madison, WI and a brother, Dalton Shroyer of Chandler, Ariz. Siblings preceding her in death were Mildred Day of Loves Park, IL, Dean Shroyer and Keith Shroyer, both of Mishawaka. On December 24, 1933, Alta married C. Raymond Brugh in Mishawaka. He died May 7, 1991. Alta retired from the National Bank in 1970 after 15 years of service in the Trust Department. She was a member of the National Bank Retirees Club and Faith United Methodist Church. She also had been very active for many years in the former Stull United Methodist Church of South Bend and past president of the Stull United Methodist Women's Society. Alta also leaves behind a daughter, Barbara A. (Richard) Wadzinski of Mishawka and a son, Barton L. Brugh of Leesburg, IN; four grandsons, Bradley Brugh of Hollywood, FL, Jeffrey (Lisa) Brugh of Pierceton, IN, Scott (Anne) Wadzinski of Mishawaka, and Todd Wadzinski of New York City. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Emily, Logan and Elizabeth Brugh of Pierceton, IN. Visitation will be at noon Tuesday, September 18, at Faith United Methodist Church, 802 E. Ewing Avenue, South Bend, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, The Leukemia Society of America, or Hospice of St. Joseph County. All arrangements were handled by Bubb Funeral Chapel, Mishawaka.
