Clara T. Nate, 87, of Dowagiac, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006, in the Caretel Inns of Royalton, St. Joseph, MI. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church. Clara will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. Clara was born December 12, 1918, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Cyriel and Anna (DeSchepper) Van Hoedt. She married John J. Nate Sr. on January 13, 1937, in Mishawaka. Clara was a longtime member of the Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church and the Antlerettes of Dowagiac Elks Lodge 889. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her family was her life, especially the grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, John J. (Judy) Nate Jr. and Ron (Jan) Nate, both of Dowagiac; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 13, 2004; her parents; five sisters, Marie, Georgette, Lucille, Genevieve and Elsie; and by a brother, Leon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass/Van Buren County Hospice, St. Vincent DePaul or to Michigan Knights Baseball, P.O. Box 824, Dowagiac, MI 49047.
