SOUTH BEND - Sophie Yazich, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle, IN. She was 97 years old. She was born on February 18, 1914, in Hibbing, MN, to George and Milka (Vojvodich) Skorich, and had lived in South Bend since 1936, coming from Minnesota. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all who provided wonderful care for Sophie. On September 20, 1936, in South Bend, she married Louis Yazich, who preceded her in death on April 3, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her son, Louis Yazich on June 20, 2004; sisters, Julia Monti, Mayme Radovich; and brothers, Joe, Dan and George Skorich. Mrs. Yazich retired from the Housekeeping Dept. at the Tower Federal Building following twenty years of service. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church and was a member of the Circle of Serbian Sisters. She was a proud and hard-working wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also loved making wonderful pastries for family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Millicent (Dimitrios) Vasiliades of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Diana (Chris) Chambers of Chicago and Artemis (John) Vasiliades-Mullett of Denver, CO. Also surviving is a great grandson, Nikolas Chambers, along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at St. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, 59262 Keria Trail, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, where a prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mrs. Yazich may be offered to the St. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, 59262 Keria Trail, South Bend, IN 46614.
